Homecoming - 12.27.05

Well, a lot has happened since the last posting. It took Kim another 8 hours or so to fully dialate. Not bad. At 10:30pm Doctor Simms gave us the go-ahead to start pushing. Kim did awesome! After only 6 or 7 sets of pushing, Dasan Blake popped right out. 10:48pm on 12/25/05.

Dasan is a very healthy 9 lbs 3.3 oz and 21 inches long. He is handsome as all-get-out... a blond-haired, blue-eyed hunk. Can't wait to introduce him to you.

We checked out of the hospital this morning around 10. Figuring out the car seat was an adventure, but as soon as Dasan took a breath of fresh air on the way to the car all his worries dissolved.

It's awesome to have Dasan at the house. Abby (our 3 yr old boxer) and Dasan hit it off. Abby gently checked out her new friend. Every time Dasan squeaks Abby empathizes with a little squeaking of her own - I think Abby is pretty emotionally intelligent. You've gotta check out the great shot of Abby, Kim, and Dasan curled up on the love-seat together under the "Newly Born" tab on the website (kimandryanhill.com). Literally one big happy family.

We'll keep ya posted as Dasan keeps growing...

Broken Water and such...

It’s 2:10pm on Christmas Day, which means Kim and I are about 10 minutes late to my parents for a Christmas celebration. I’ll think the tardy will be excused, however, considering we’re hanging out on the second floor of Baylor Medical in Grapevine with a steady flow of petosin cruising through Kim’s veins.

Kim’s water broke yesterday evening before we visited The Jacksons for Christmas Eve. We decided to hold off on calling the doctor until Kim started feeling contractions. We made it through the evening and decided that if Kim wasn’t feeling contractions by the morning we’d call the doctor. So when we woke up around 9 we put a call in. After hearing Kim’s story, Doctor Simms asked us to come into the hospital. Somewhere around 11:00 am we got the green light and shortly after that they started the petosin.

We’ve got the coolest room in the hospital. It’s a huge corner room with a lot of windows. Kim is thrilled to be in a nice room with sunlight and even more thrilled to be only hours away from delivery.

My parents stopped in for an hour or so. They’re PUMPED! Kim’s family just arrived and they’re keeping Kim and I company at the moment. We’re watching the Nutcracker and discussing pediatrics (Kim’s sharing her concern with the room about whether our pediatrician, who’s close to retirement, will have steady enough hands to perform a clean circumcision.).

More to come…

Red Rover Red Rover let Dasan come over!!!

Right now it's 3:06am on Christmas Eve and we are bustling around preparing a way for Dasan. I'm cleaning the house and Kim's washing all of Dasan's stuff with special baby detergent.

We've sytematically worked our way through the list of wivestale methods for naturally inducing labor. We've had mexican food the past three nights, we've been taking long hard walks every night, we've tried accupressure and foot massages, and I've even tried drinking Seven Up through my nose while holding a handstand (not actually a proven method, but I think I'm on to something), etc... So we're optimistic that little Dasan (who's alleged to be not so little after all - dr. said he's already 8+ lbs) will arrive sooner than later. Stay tuned to the site for new news - we'll try to keep you posted as close to real-time as possible.

Final Count Down to Dasan....

The countdown is on! It's December 19th and we just paid a visit to our baby doctor. He's always a little reluctant to go out on a limb with hot due date predictions, but Nurse Tina has a feeling we won't make it to Christmas. Our official due date is January 3rd, but Kim and I both agree with Tina that Dasan's coming sooner than later. During our visit today Doctor Lockard estimated that Dasan's birth weight could be well over eight pounds, so the sooner Dasan comes the better.

We have our bags packed for the hospital. Both of us are planning to work right up until Kim goes into labor, which is good because we're both so anxious to meet Dasan.

Hopefully our next occassion to talk is for us to introduce you to Dasan....
